For understanding the relation between flexibility and geometric and material parameters of LIBs, a battery structural element is extracted.
More importantly, for the entire beads-and-thread battery with a fixed total length, there is no need to drastically reduce the length of the battery element or increase the number of battery elements. The battery designer only needs to choose a suitable number N for the desired flexibility and keep the relative energy density as high as possible.
The results show clearly that an upper threshold exists on the flexibility of battery when the number of battery elements increases. In other words, the beads-and-thread battery only needs the proper number of battery elements to promote flexibility and keep high energy density at the same time.
Except for the flexibility, the mechanical durability of the battery is also highly concerned by battery designer. Apparently, the mechanical performance of the beads-and-thread battery will degrade quickly if ultra-large deformation such as folding happens.
